The California Healthy Kids Survey “(CHKS”) is administrated to all students in the Tamalpais Unified High School District (“District”) every other year. The latest results are for the 2013-14 school year and are alarming, especially when compared to the state CHKS data aggregated from the 2011-13 school years.
NOTE: the District numbers DO NOT include San Andreas or Tamsical HS students.
High Rates of Emotional/Mental Health Issues among Redwood Students.
The most recent CHKS data indicates alarming rates among our teens of depression, suicidal thoughts and self-harm.
Redwood and District Students are Drinking at Higher Rates than Other Teens in CA – and there is a Significant Jump between 9th and 11th Grade
Redwood and District Students are Using Marijuana and Other Drugs at Higher Rates than Other Teens in CA, especially in the upper grades.

District Students Didn’t Know Where to Get Help – And Now They Can at the Wellness Center
Underscoring the need for Wellness Centers, over 50% of students said they “don’t know” if help is available or think help is “not likely available” at school to help them reduce their use of alcohol or other drugs.
